St. Louis, MO – SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital began a new chapter in its history today with a formal groundbreaking ceremony for its $550 million, 15 acre hospital and ambulatory care center.  Located along South Grand Blvd just north of I-44, the project features 800,000 square feet of space, 316 patient rooms, expanded trauma center and emergency department, larger intensive care units, parking, green spaces, and areas for future campus expansion.

General Contractor, Alberici Constructors, also named Guarantee Electrical Company (GECO) as the electrical design and construction subcontractor for the project.  This is the fourth replacement hospital Alberici and GECO will have worked on together. Previously GECO was the electrical design and construction contractor on the award winning SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, MO; St. Clare Hospital (Fenton, MO) formerly St. Joseph’s Hospital (Kirkwood, MO) and is in the final construction phase on the HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.

“We are once again, delighted to be part of the design and construction team, working with Alberici Constructors, on such a prominent replacement hospital in St. Louis and looking forward to kicking this project off very soon.” Added Doug Mertzlufft President of Guarantee Electrical Company.

Renowned for its electrical performance in healthcare construction, Guarantee Electrical Company has become the expert in electrical engineering, design, construction and systems implementation across the country on countless healthcare projects.

According to SSM Health, the project is expected to total more than 2.2 million workforce construction hours and a peak workforce team of more than 600, with project completion in 2020.
