Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Systems Services Installation

Location: Mattoon, Illinois
Completed:
Client: Sara Bush Health Center
Size: $2,500,000

THE PROJECT
GECO Systems provided complete systems implementation at Sarah Bush which involved delivering a brand new data infrastructure in support of a major expansion and rehabilitation of SBLHC’s existing patient tower.  Additions included the provision of a new high-speed fiber optic vertical backbone with structured cabling and new head-end equipment throughout, and included outfitting four (4) new IT rooms as well as providing some 800 feet of fiber-optic cabling connecting the hospital’s new, standalone Electrical Services Building to the rest of the facility.

OUR APPROACH
As a wholesale renovation in a busy regional medical center, in addition to observing exacting sanitation and patient safety standards, etc. the Systems project required replacement of seventies era technology.  This meant that great care be taken to preserve the existing communications system.  This involved exhaustive tracing of communications lines to locate and determine which legacy connections were routed to which departments where and how. This was followed by a carefully staged demolition to assure no loss of connectivity up to and through installation, and eventual cutover to the replacement network.

OUR WORK
Guarantee’s Systems team kept budgets in line and deliverables on schedule, even as the customer’s needs evolved over the course of the project.  In addition, the complexity of the tasks involved put a premium on systematic project management to stay on top of a large renovation project that involved blending large scale self-performing installation services, while managing the installation of subcontracted specialty services  (nurse call, access control and CCTV).

In addition to a dramatic technology upgrade, the integration of communications with the electrical systems was an important feature of the project.  It started with the need to observe current code requirements for segregating ordinary, critical and emergency power throughout the facility, which necessitated the construction of a new standalone Electrical Services Building.  In addition to providing communications to support that unit, Systems provided redundant fiber for assured connectivity of communications services across the Sarah Bush facility.  In all, Guarantee introduced substantial  operational and functional improvements to the thirty-eight year old Sarah Bush Lincoln facility.
