A.T. Still University, a private, nonprofit institution that offers a variety of clinical and health care management degree programs built a new 3-story, 80,000 square foot facility in St. Louis. With a mission to provide health services to low-income families, the urban dental university is positioned as the preeminent university for health professions. The St. Louis location will provide 3rd & 4th year dental students with hands-on, community based opportunities to finish their dental education. The university has capacity to handle 92 student chairs and the 3rd story is set for future expansion.
From the outset, Guarantee Electrical was tasked with providing turnkey design-build electrical construction services including constructability drawings, trimble layouts for all MEP, site utility services, metering for new service, all systems controls and all telecomunications. The fast-tracked project required innovative construction methodology as well. Utilizing it’s “just-in-time” project pre-planning approach, Guarantee was able to take advatage of it’s pre-fabrication shop and job site trailers for storage of light fixtures, outlets for chairs, pipe bending, and site lighting pole pre-fabrication, thereby reducing unnecessary jobsite clutter.
Guarantee’s team concept and relentless attention to schedule kept the project on time and on budget, and simplified the process of responding to design modifications that were inevitable in a fast-track, implementation environment. The owner and General Contractor always had knowledgeable, responsive contacts at Guarantee for the many custom design questions that needed addressing.
A.T. Still opened on schedule with more than 10,000 man-hours worked without a single incident. Additionally, the use of technology fom BIM modeling to in-field use of iPads allowed the job to be communicated throughout the project with real-time reports for safety, scheduling, drawing transmittals and photos of any issues which developed.
