Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy Distribution Center
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Client: Contegra Construction
Size: $2.6 Million
GECO’s preconstruction plan called for placement of the building’s electrical distribution system in the slab of the single-story facility. This provided the advantage of creating abundant space for the building’s extensive low voltage and mechanical systems, as well as supplying permanent power to the building early and for the duration of construction. In addition, Guarantee was able to recover expenses during “buyout” making abundant use of materials from the less expensive St. Louis distribution channels.
Making use of its membership in the Federated Electrical Contractors (FEC) GECO was able to form an especially effective partnership with Pittsburgh based Lighthouse electric, who supplied the Walgreens project with journeymen personnel and engineering support that was coordinated with GECO Engineering to assure delivery of a fail-safe electrical design.
Guarantee Electrical Company (GECO) provided electrical construction management services on behalf of the construction of Walgreen’s Specialty Pharmacy Distribution Center construction project involved providing electrical construction services with subcontracting partner and fellow FEC member, Lighthouse Electric, to deliver a new electrical service and distribution for Walgreens 75,000 S.F. specialty distribution center, which featured commercial office space, a call center, pharmaceutical order processing and fulfillment areas, cold storage and a warehouse facility.
The collaborative approach to project management and procurement benefitted the GC, the customer and the team generally in the form of a successful project that achieved reasonable margins while saving the customer over $100,000 in construction and material expense.
The Walgreens Specialty Pharmaceutical Distribution Center was completed on budget and on schedule without any incidents or lost time injuries. In addition, the successful partnership with Contegra on the Pittsburgh project has led to the pursuit and successful launch of a similar project currently under way, and with several additional projects in this joint venture “pipeline.”
