Guarantee Electrical’s smart value engineering delivered superior systems and lasting energy savings for the new high school, designed to serve up to 1,400 students in Waterloo, Illinois.
Shortly after breaking ground in spring 2007, Guarantee’s pre-construction team began collaborating with lead construction manager, S.M. Wilson & Co., and Design Architects, Inc. to generate ideas aimed at achieving energy and cost savings of up to 36,500 kilowatt hours annually.
Providing an efficient and cost-effective lighting system for the 20,040-square-foot gymnasium proved especially challenging. Guarantee achieved cost and energy savings by installing 54-watt T-5 fixtures with an instant-on control panel rather than the 400-watt bi-level fixtures that were originally planned.
The new 227,000-square-foot high school features 57 classrooms, three gymnasiums, a 462-seat auditorium, fitness center/weight room, computer lab, library, audio-video lab space, three vocational shops (auto, agriculture and wood), and a central courtyard with pond and fountain. Guarantee installed the building’s central power system as well as professional sound and lighting systems. Each classroom features occupancy sensors which automatically turn overhead lights off and on based on motion detection.
