Although they competed for the same stories, the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post found a collaborative way to gain the best technology and office space for their respective teams. Until the Rocky Mountain News ceased publication in February 2009, both dailies were produced under a joint operating agreement by the Denver Newspaper Agency in a new headquarters at the corner of Broadway and Colfax in downtown Denver. Guarantee Electrical installed all telephone-data and coaxial cable infrastructure for the 11-story, 350,000-square-foot structure.
Working within an aggressive five-month schedule, Guarantee set up two crews – one to route cable to nearly 2,500 cubicles and another to build out the 50,000-square-foot data center. Guarantee installed nearly one million linear feet of Cat 6-rated cable and more than 4,000 cables. Guarantee also installed:
- 312 strands of laser-optimized multi-mode fiber,
- 156 strands of single-mode fiber,
- more than 1,000 feet of basket tray and
- more than 50,000 square feet of RG6 coaxial cable.
The project also included installation of an assisted listening device system, construction of 13 telecommunications rooms; including a broadcast booth for ESPN; and installation and wiring of television banks, equipping reporters to tune in to 50 stations on each newsroom floor.
