Mercy Orthodpedic Hospital
Location: Springfield, MO
Completed: March 2013
Client: Mercy Health System
Guarantee Electrical Company provided electrical and systems contracting services for the construction of Mercy’s new, four story, 199,000-square-foot Orthopedic Hospital in Springfield, MO, featuring 10 operating rooms, 48 inpatient beds, an outpatient clinic and pharmacy, together with an adjacent medical office building.
Serving as design-assist partner, Guarantee was called on for preconstruction analysis using BIM in close collaboration with consulting engineer, Heideman Associates. The challenge was to coordinate our model’s preconstruction drawings using precise set points using GECO’s Trimble system. The approach enabled the team to essentially “prebuild” the electrical systems prior to physical construction, while enhancing communication between the trades. The method proved especially effective in a densely designed, complex surgical center, providing “ultra-accurate” construction drawings to the electrical construction teams and virtually eliminating conflicts between trades, while assuring first time accurate installations.
In delivering this advanced orthopedic surgery center, Guarantee made the most of its experience building to Mercy’s standards for healthcare design. This included adopting open-book accounting and advanced methods of integrated project delivery (IPD) to assure that the surgeons and orthopedists have what they need to deliver the very best in 21st century medicine. Guarantee installed a fully integrated digital network throughout the facility with abundant bandwidth supporting the digital imaging critical to the practice of orthopedics. In addition to state of the art digital systems, Guarantee specified advanced LED lighting throughout, minimizing energy costs and dramatically reducing future maintenance expense.
