Polar Wave Ice and Fuel Company
Location: St. Louis, MO
Client: Shock City Studios
Size: 18,720 SF
Cutting edge recording company, Shock City Studios, selected Guarantee Electrical as its electrical contractor for the historic renovation of the Polar Wave Ice and Fuel Co. plant at 2200 Gravois in St. Louis. In addition to the 7,000-square-foot recording studio, the total 18,720-square-foot renovation features both retail and residential space.
The two-story plant now houses one of the Midwest’s most innovative professional recording studios. Guarantee installed a multi-meter service and new electrical distribution system, provided reliable power for recording equipment, and installed custom lighting, fire alarms, landscape and site lighting.
Guarantee collaborated closely with the architect/general contractor and owner of this historic landmark to illuminate the unique architecture of the building. Originally completed in 1906 after consolidation of the Muckerman family ice dynasty, the building was part of a network of structures that formed the leading ice manufacturing, storage and retail company in St. Louis. Completed soon after the 1904 World’s Fair, it took advantage of the city’s new clean water supply to make ice. Designed by noted St. Louis architect Harry G. Clymer, the building is the oldest remaining ice manufacturing facility connected with Polar Wave.
