THE PROJECT
As an expansion/renovation project, East Morgan County Hospital evolved into two projects in one. The first phase involved replacement of the existing antiquated 208V service with an up-to-date 480V 2000 amp service, and included the build-out of a new electrical room in the existing hospital.  The second phase involved new construction of an adjacent OB/Surgery center with accommodations that included four (4) emergency intensive care unit (EICU) rooms, a C-Section OR, two conventional labor and delivery recovery/postpartum (LDRP) rooms and two delivery rooms designed especially to conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA LDRP).  In addition, the new wing includes another eight conventional, private patient rooms.

OUR WORK
The in-slab approach enabled the Guarantee crews to complete much of the preliminary electrical distribution early in the project.  It also had the effect of making additional space available for the balance of the MEP infrastructure needed to support construction of an advanced OB birthing center and OR.  Guarantee then supplied the rough-in for the balance of the wiring serving the OB clinic and its imaging equipment, as well as providing rough in for the voice data network and nurse-call for the new addition.  Finally, the Colorado team provided turnkey installation of a new fire alarm system serving the existing hospital and the new addition.

OUR APPROACH
Guarantee made great use of its preconstruction resources, including building information modeling (BIM) in its design-assist role that included routing and placing the new electrical distribution in-ground/in slab and thereby simplifying tie-in of the new infrastructure with the newly replaced service housed in the existing facility.   

SUCCESS
Taking full advantage of its preconstruction capabilities, Guarantee was able to complete the East Morgan County Hospital renovation and OB expansion in just fourteen months, starting in October 2013 and finishing by year end, 2014.  Once again, the Colorado team demonstrated its prowess in delivering an advanced emergency medical treatment facility, keeping to an aggressive schedule and budget, without incurring a single lost time incident or accident.
